Shopping Small for Dancewear
My toddler just started taking ballet class. (and I could talk on and on about how much I love where we dance… but that’s another post entirely!!) Her older sister has been in dance classes for years, and after a lifetime of tagging along for carpool, she couldn’t take being left out any longer. So when you live in Oklahoma City and you need shoes, a leotard, and tights, where do you go?
I remember the first time I came into this store with an impulsive kindergartener and allllll the shiny, sparkly, things and I felt like I had made a rookie mistake. She was blown away that such a heaven existed. So much tulle. Show Biz Dance has a million things your daughter will ask for, trust me. And even if your daughter isn’t a dancer, this might still be her favorite store because: pink sparkles.
This store has two locations - one in Edmond and one in OKC, and the owners are extremely helpful. And I am writing this to encourage you to resist the urge to find your dance wear online because this shop is the place you need to go.
So go to get fitted for ballet shoes. (just big enough for my growing girls’ feet but not so big they will trip!) Go so that you know you are getting the correct tights for your studio’s dress code. Go because its easier to work this stuff out in person than hoping you get it right online. Go because it supports OKC to shop small.
But also, their stuffed animals wear tutus, they have beautiful Christmas ornaments, they have all the foundation garments a girl could need and plenty of bags. I actually recommend one of their garment bags for any girl, dancer or not, as a great birthday gift. What little girl wouldn’t love her very own travel garment bag? And speaking of that bag, I should think about getting our bag monogramed locally (another post for another day!) They even have those giant dancer bags for dance competitions… which praise the good Lord that my girls’ hearts aren’t set on that track because my weekends are full enough and there are places I haven’t yet been to for brunch! I don’t know how those dance moms do those long weekend competitions!
Maybe we will stick with ballet long enough to get my daughter fitted for pointe shoes here, I have read that they do an excellent job fitting them. Time will tell. But in the mean time, I am so happy to have such a complete resource nearby. And I am proud to support a local store that has put such thoughtful care into what their customers need. The Windsor family really cares about their customers and it shows as they have been serving the community for decades— they have owned the store since the 80’s and the store has been open since the 70s! I feel honored that my girls get to be outfitted there as well!
